After lunch, we will go to the Ollantaytambo train station and take the train to Machu Picchu. The scenic ride will take us along the Urubamba River, passing through lush Andean scenery.
Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes Machu Picchu, we will check in at the hotel and meet with our tour guides. They will explain the plan for the next day so we are ready to visit Machu Picchu Citadel.
The evening will be free for exploring this charming town or relaxing before our big day. A good night’s rest will prepare us for the high-altitude adventure ahead.
In the morning, we will take a bus to Machu Picchu and use our ticket to enter this Wonder of the World. A guided tour will lead us through ancient temples, terraces, and hidden corners, unveiling the secrets of Inca engineering. After exploring the citadel, we will go back to Aguas Calientes and have free time before returning.
We will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, enjoying one last look at the stunning Andean landscapes. When we arrive, our transport will take us back to Cusco, ending our amazing Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour.

We will begin our two day tour early in the morning, picking you up from your hotel in Cusco (3,400 m / 11,155 ft). Our journey will take us through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting key archaeological sites and breathtaking landscapes.
Time to start by visiting Chinchero, which is 3,762 meters (12,342 feet) high. This charming town is renowned for its colonial church, Inca terraces, and vibrant textile traditions.
Next, we will visit Moray (3,500 m / 11,482 ft), a fascinating Inca agricultural laboratory. These circular terraces allowed the Incas to experiment with crops at different temperatures. We will explore this impressive site and learn about ancient farming techniques.
After a short drive, we will reach the Maras Salt Mines (3,380 m / 11,089 ft), where thousands of salt pools cascade down the mountainside. These salt ponds have been used since Inca times and still produce salt today. The dazzling white pools create an unforgettable landscape.
Next, we’ll continue our Sacred Valley tour to Urubamba (2,870 m / 9,416 ft), where we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with a variety of Peruvian and Andean specialties. After lunch, we will drive to Ollantaytambo (2,792 m / 9,160 ft), one of the most important Inca sites. We will explore the massive stone terraces, ceremonial fountains, and the Sun Temple, which showcase advanced Inca engineering.
In the late afternoon, we’ll make our way to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the Expedition Train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. This scenic ride will follow the Urubamba River, offering incredible views of the cloud forest and towering mountains. The train journey will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes (2,040 m / 6,692 ft), we will check in at our hotel. In the evening, we will meet our tour guides for a briefing about the next day’s adventure at Machu Picchu Mountain. We will then have free time to explore the town or relax before our early morning visit to the Lost City of the Incas.
Day 1 Statistics:
Wake up early for breakfast at the hotel before heading to the bus station. We will take a 30-minute ride to get to Machu Picchu (2,430 m / 7,972 ft), one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
With our tickets to Machu Picchu, we’ll enter and begin our two-hour guided tour. Our guide will show us the Main Square, the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, the Sacred Rock, and the Royal Quarters. We will learn about the history, architecture, and mysteries of this legendary city.
After the guided tour, we will have free time to explore on our own. Those who have reserved an optional hike to Machu Picchu Mountain (3,082 m / 10,111 ft) can enjoy a spectacular view from the summit. The hike takes about three hours round trip and requires a separate ticket.
By 1:15 PM, we will board the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where we will have time for lunch and to explore the town.
In the afternoon, the Expedition Train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo is going to wait for us. The return journey will allow us to relax and admire the last views of the Andes. Once in Ollantaytambo, our transport will take us back to Cusco, arriving around 8:30 PM.
