We will travel through the Sacred Valley, passing traditional villages and stunning Andean scenery. The route continues to Hidroeléctrica, where the hike to the town of Aguas Calientes begins. The trail runs alongside the train tracks, surrounded by rivers, waterfalls, and exotic vegetation.

After a night in Aguas Calientes, we will enter Machu Picchu early in the morning. A guided tour will explore the Inca citadel, visiting its most impressive temples, terraces, and viewpoints. Free time will allow for personal exploration before taking the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu.

Day 1Cusco – Sacred Valley – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

The journey starts early, passing through the Sacred Valley. We will stop at Abra Málaga (4,316 m / 14,160 ft) for photos. The route descends into the jungle, reaching Hidroeléctrica for lunch. From there, we will hike 10 km along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes, arriving after about three hours. 

After check-in, a briefing with the tour guide will take place, followed by dinner and free time to explore the town.

After free time, we will return to Aguas Calientes, enjoy a meal, and then walk back to Hidroeléctrica. The drive back to Cusco will pass through Santa Teresa and Santa María.

I’ve done several tours around the world, but this one was special. The scenic views, fascinating guided tour of Machu Picchu, and affordable price made it an excellent choice.
The hike was manageable, even for someone like me who isn’t an experienced hiker. Definitely a top experience.
