Early morning
The journey starts early, passing through the Sacred Valley. We will stop at Abra Málaga (4,316 m / 14,160 ft) for photos. The route descends into the jungle, reaching Hidroeléctrica for lunch. From there, we will hike 10 km along the train tracks to Aguas Calientes, arriving after about three hours.
After check-in, a briefing with the tour guide will take place, followed by dinner and free time to explore the town.
Day 1 Statistics:
An early start allows time to reach Machu Picchu before sunrise. The 1.5-hour walk or 30 minutes bus ride takes us to the entrance. A professional guide will lead a tour through the Inca citadel, exploring highlights like the Sun Gate and Main Plaza.
After free time, we will return to Aguas Calientes, enjoy a meal, and then walk back to Hidroeléctrica. The drive back to Cusco will pass through Santa Teresa and Santa María.
