3:00 AM – Departure from Arequipa

We will begin the Colca Canyon Arequipa Full Day Tour early in the morning. A comfortable vehicle will pick us up from our hotel. The journey will take us along a scenic road through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve.

Majestic landscapes, high-altitude plateaus, and Andean wildlife will make the drive unforgettable. Herds of alpacas, llamas, and vicuñas will graze peacefully in their natural habitat.

Breakfast in Chivay

We will arrive in Chivay, the gateway to the Colca Valley, where a delicious breakfast will be ready. The fresh mountain air and stunning scenery will energize us for the day. Traditional stone houses and local markets will give us the first glimpse of Andean culture. This town sits at over 3,600 meters (11,800 feet), so taking it slow is important.

Cruz del Cóndor and Condors Flying Over the Canyon

A short drive will take us to Cruz del Cóndor, one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the canyon. Here, we will witness condors flying gracefully above the cliffs, using warm air currents to glide effortlessly. The view of the deepest canyon in the world will be breathtaking, with vertical drops of over 3,270 meters (10,725 feet). This is the best time to spot these incredible birds in action.

Visit to Maca and the Church of Santa Ana

On our way back, we will stop at Maca, a picturesque Andean village. The Church of Santa Ana, built with volcanic stone, showcases impressive colonial architecture. Locals will greet us with warm smiles, offering handmade souvenirs and traditional drinks. The surrounding landscape features ancient pre-Inca terraces still used for farming.

Relaxing in the Chacapi Hot Springs (3,500 m / 11,482 ft)

A well-deserved break awaits at the Chacapi Hot Springs, where natural thermal pools will soothe our muscles. The mineral-rich waters, heated by underground volcanic activity, will provide a relaxing experience. The contrast between the warm pools and the cool mountain air will be refreshing. Those who prefer not to bathe may enjoy the serene environment and take stunning photos.

Return to Chivay and Free Time for Lunch

Back in Chivay, we will have time to enjoy a traditional Andean lunch (not included). Local dishes will include quinoa soup, alpaca meat, and fresh trout from the Colca River. After lunch, we will explore the town’s lively streets, filled with artisans and small markets. This will be a great opportunity to experience daily life in the highlands.

Patapampa Viewpoint, the Highest Point of the Tour

The journey continues to Patapampa, the highest point on the Colca Canyon trek. From here, we will admire the Andean Volcanic Mountain Range, including Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca. This spot will provide a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks and deep valleys. The thin air at this altitude will remind us of the extreme conditions of the Andes.

Pampa Cañahuas and Wildlife Observation

Descending from the highlands, we will pass through Pampa Cañahuas, a vast plateau home to diverse wildlife. We will spot vicuñas, the finest wool-producing camelid, in their protected habitat. Andean foxes, flamingos, and eagles may also make an appearance. The changing landscapes will highlight the biodiversity of southern Peru.

5:00 PM – Arrival in Arequipa and End of the Day Tour
