This 3-day Uyuni Salt Flats Bolivia tour lets us explore Bolivia’s beautiful landscapes, including salt flats, colorful lagoons, and volcanoes. With expert guides, we’ll experience the stunning beauty of South America’s top destination.
On Day 1, we start by picking you up in Uyuni. First, we visit the Cementerio de Trenes (Train Cemetery), located just outside Uyuni. Here, we will see old train wrecks that once connected Bolivia to the rest of South America.
Afterward, we are going to head to Colchani, the entrance to the Salar de Uyuni. We will visit local workshops where artisans craft salt-based souvenirs. You’ll also see the small salt-processing plant.
Next, we begin our journey into the heart of the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world. We will stop to observe salt extraction methods and visit the Hotel de Sal Playa Blanca, now a museum.
We then reach Isla Incahuasi, located in the middle of the salt flat. Here, we will hike among the giant cacti, some reaching 12 meters (39 feet) in height. You can take in the panoramic 360° views of the salt flat from the island’s lookout point. After a day full of exploration, we head to the salt hotel for rest.
Day 1 Statistics:
We start Day 2 early with breakfast at the salt hotel. Our first stop is the Mirador del Volcán Ollagüe, where we can view an active volcano. The landscape here is striking with sparse vegetation and volcanic terrain.
Next, we visit several colorful lagoons, including Laguna Chiarkota and Laguna Hedionda. These lagoons are home to many flamingos, which stop here during their migration.
We continue to the Desierto de Siloli, a barren yet beautiful place filled with unique rock formations. One of the most famous is the Árbol de Piedra (Stone Tree), a natural sculpture shaped by wind erosion.
From there, we head to the Laguna Colorada, known for its bright red color due to algae and sediment. The scenery is perfect for photography. After this, we travel to Huayllajara, where we have a simple yet delicious dinner. We will sleep in a community-run, basic lodging.
Day 2 Statistics:
On Day 3, we begin early to visit the Fumarolas, volcanic cracks emitting sulfuric gases. After this, we head to the Aguas Termales de Polques, natural hot springs.
These warm waters range from 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F) and are known for their therapeutic properties. Many people take a relaxing dip in the hot springs to soothe tired muscles.
